Colour is just an illusion

So we go to great lengths to ensure the colour you want is the colour we print for you

Wikipedia, "A Colour Wheel or colour circle is an abstract illustrative organisation of colour hues around a circle that shows relationships between primary colourssecondary colourscomplementary colours, etc."

The perception of colour as it appears in print is dependant upon several variables including:

The colour, finish and absorbency of the substrate / paper
The colour and density of the ink
The mix of the various inks
The amount of ink applied
The viewing conditions in the context of the brightness and temperature of the ambient lighting
And so on ...

And last but by no means least there is the brain of the viewer, for it is the brain that interprets the light falling into the eyes to "create" the colour as we perceive it. Click for information on Pantone.

Here's an optical illusion which I guarantee will challenge your perception.  You may need to copy and paste this into Microsoft Paint, cut a piece of a) and move it over b) and vice versa. And be amazed.:

A and B are the same colour

And whilst we are having fun with colour, what colour is grass on the darkest of dark cloudy nights?  Green?  Nope. Under total darkness grass, like everything else for that matter, has no colour. For it to appear any shade of green it needs 3 variables;

a) to have a surface which reflects light in such a way as to have the potential to appear "green" to a human eye.  Grass does. But that doesn't make it "green".
b) Light bright enough to reflect off the grass.
c) A human eye to receive and process the light - to "create" the green and describe it as such.

It would look a different colour to, err.. lets say,  a bee. Bees can see ultraviolet light which is more attractive to them than the bright colours humans see in flowers. And the common goldfish is the only animal that can see ultraviolet and infra red light.  So heaven knows what "green" might look like to them.  Information on the visible spectrum

This is all a bit like the old "If a tree falls in a forest and there's no people, animals, bugs, whatever, about, does it make a sound?".  The answer is no it doesn't.  All it does as it tumbles towards the ground is disturb the air.  It takes a creature with the ability to hear sound to interpret the air movement and "hear"  "that's a tree falling over".  For a deaf person it would make no sound. Its all about perception. Which is what makes colour matching so tricky.

How could I end without one of my favourite graphics of all time.

Transmitted light and Subtractive colour. Printing is all about Reflected light and Additive colour.

3M Post-It Notes are Useless on Vertical Surfaces

Which is why they invented the Super Sticky Post-It Note! 3M have "the knowledge".

A London taxi covered with Post-it® Super Sticky Notes recently drove past some of the capital city’s famous landmarks as part of a lively promotional campaign.
The notes held the names of entrants of a competition run via the Post-it Facebook page to win prizes including a family holiday and members of the public were invited to pick the winners at random during the tour.
Said Simon Williams, Post-it brand manager: "This was a fun way of demonstrating that Post-it Super Sticky Notes are perfect for getting your messages noticed as they are bright and colourful and stick to vertical and hard-to-stick-to surfaces."
"Engagement on the day was fantastic with the stunt creating a real buzz around London and thousands of members of the public snapping pictures on their phone as we passed them and posing for pictures with the taxi. We also gave away nearly a thousand samples on route."
The taxi tour was the highlight of the ‘Ideas that stick’ campaign that aims to convert consumers from regular Post-it Notes to Super Sticky Notes.
The campaign is supported by adverts on the Netmums parenting website. These link consumers to the Post-it Facebook page that invites followers to share their ideas of inspiring ways to use Super Sticky Notes.

Added Simon: "The campaign will run to the end of 2013 and we will be extending the competition to the office channel in quarter three. We have already seen some impressive results with our campaign reaching more than one million people in the two weeks leading up to the event and a 9 per cent increase in Facebook fans in just over a week."

What happened to Ibico Binding Machines and Laminators?

For years, one of the largest names in the binding and laminating industry was Ibico binding machines and laminators, and binding supplies on the market. In recent years you might have noticed that the Ibico brand has disappeared from the marketplace. Prompting us to ask the question, what ever happened to the Ibico Brand name?
In 1998, Ibico AG was purchased by General Binding Corporation (GBC). However, GBC decided to continue to maintain the Ibico brand of products in addition the regular line of GBC products. GBC offered a full line of Ibico binding machines and binding supplies. This was the case until 2005.

After more than a decade of supporting both the GBC and Ibico brands, General Binding Corporation made the decision in 2005 to discontinue the Ibico line of products. When GBC made the decision to stop supporting the Ibico brand of products, many of the Ibico machines were rebranded under new GBC model numbers.

Of the thousands of other products carried as part of the Ibico line, many were also rebranded with the GBC name. Hundreds of products were also discontinued and disappeared when the Ibico name was phased out. If you are looking for a particular product, the best thing to do is just ask. If the exact product is no longer available it is likely that there is something equivalent available to meet your needs. So ask us and we’ll work it out for you.

And continuing the recent customer service theme, another prospect is bowled over by Irongate.

Mark Williams enjoying the new account win executive leather chair
Mark is one of a team of internal account executives who manage a significant chunk of  Irongate's business between them and who are responsible for recruiting a small number of new customers.  Whilst Mark is expected to spend a certain amount of his time each day speaking to prospects, he doesn't have a new account target. This means  we only recruit new customers who have a real need for our product and services, resulting in high customer satisfaction and retention.   As Mark would say "quality".

Where do Irongate's satisfied customers come from?

Every satisfied customer will have started their journey with Irongate as a suspect and then a prospect on a sales person's prospect list.  Our Internal Account Managers, Sadie, Curtis and Mark,  not only personally look after the needs of their own customers, delivering unparallelled one-to-one support, they also prospect for new customers.

Earlier this week, Office Interiors Sales Manager, Simon "chopper" Clark devised this challenge to help reward their daily efforts:-

"Here’s a challenge for you, prospecting and gaining new accounts is a very important part of your jobs and daily activity. Now it could be a whole lot better. It’s easy. If you open a new account (must have an order to qualify) I will give you the chance to sit in a comfy leather chair the same as Adam's (our MD).

You get to sit in the comfy leather chair until the next person in the team opens an account. So you could sit in it for days or you could be in it for 5 minutes.

Please remember that this offer is brought to you by “Furniture land offer’s“ and everybody likes a bit of furniture..... "
